Little boy Artie's drawing adventure starts with his pulling a magic pencil out of a stone. Kids join the little hero by controlling his movements and tracing geometric shapes he draws. These traced shapes combine to create needed objects within the Artie's Magic Pencil adventure.
How to Play
Artie's Magic Pencil is a side-scrolling adventure game. Artie follows the player's finger to move forward in this world by running to the right. As Artie explores his world, he sees a dinosaur stomping around, destroying the landscape and towns in its path. With his magic pencil, Artie is able to redraw broken objects so that they are fixed.
Player's join in on the art creation by tracing objects that Artie draws. Artie combines rectangles, circles, and triangles in such ways as to create houses, a windmill, a bridge, a helicopter and more. There are 15 objects to draw in this game.
Sometimes, Artie draws just for the fun of it, such as when he creates a butterfly or a racecar to drive. Other times, he uses his creativity to help other people, such as fixing a bus, rebuilding a house, or putting a roof on the ice cream parlor. Artie is so inventive that he even comes up with a way to rid the land of the marauding dinosaur by drawing a machine that creates butterflies. The butterflies attach themselves to the dinosaur and fly him away!
Artie's Magic Pencil is a fun and creative adventure for young kids to explore. The upbeat soundtrack and the intuitive interface make this a positive experience for young children. There are no words -- this is a story told by images. And there is no failure or competition, just a fun story in which to play.
Artie shows kids how to create objects out of geometric shapes, and he provides them with lots of fine motor practice by having them trace shapes. By inviting players to help him draw, Artie helps kids to feel like they are a part of the game. He also lets kids put their own stamp of creativity on the drawn object by having them swipe sideways and up-and-down to find color combinations and pattern designs that appeal to them.
Every time Artie encounters someone in trouble, he stops to help. Thus, Artie's Magic Pencil delivers in an important lesson in empathy and helping others in need. The characters come in all shapes and colors, so diversity is represented within the app.
Kids who love art will get a kick out of Artie's Magic Pencil
. But the child who doesn't like art will benefit most from playing this app. Artie's Magic Pencil
shows the reluctant drawer that art is made out of shapes and that drawing isn't that difficult. This app might motivate kids to draw outside of the app; and it even provides a downloadable coloring sheet within the gated Parents' section, under the "Blog" link that leads here
