Reading Games in the Wallykazam Universe
Featuring characters Wally Trollman and his pet dragon Norville from Wallykazam, the new Nick Jr TV show, this app hosts four learn-to-read games. Kids learn about letter sounds as they rescue letters from the clutches of the mischievous Bobgoblin. They trace lowercase letters with Libby Light Sprite to light up the night sky, and build a tower of rhyming words so they can talk with Gina Giant. As kids play Wallykazam! Letter and Word Magic, they earn magic words that can change the appearance of the pet Borgelorp. That part is hilarious to see because Borgelorp expresses emotion with each change.
Good for Fans of the Show
The 3D graphics used to present the world of Wally and friends are breathtaking. Fans of this show will love to play the learning-to-read games with their favorite characters. Rewarding kids with magic words and then letting them play with them with Borgelorp drives home what each word means. It's zany fun to see Borgelorp become "fluorescent," "big" or "freeze.
Some Versions are Pricey
While we like how the four games build letter and word knowledge, letter-sound associations, and phonemic awareness, the high definition iPad and Kindle versions costs a whopping $6.99! This seems steep for an app that only has four learning activities.
Best For
Wallykazam! Letter and Word Magic works best with fans of the Wallykazam TV show. With only four activities, kids may lose interest after a while.
