An ingenious set of 200 puzzles where kids think they are just playing but then they discover that they are learning algebra.
The Bottom Line
Brilliant set of puzzles that teach kids how to do algebra.

Sneaky But Brilliant Algebra Trainer

In this app, kids think that they are solving a series of puzzles involving an intriguing magical dragon box. What they are really doing is learning how to do simple algebra.

How to Play

As with other popular puzzle apps like Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, the goal of each puzzle is to earn three stars so that you can unlock the next one in a series of puzzles.

The app displays each puzzle on a play space that is broken into two sides. Within the play space are cards and the sparkling dragonbox that glows and makes munching sounds. Kids quickly learn that the goal of each puzzle is to combine the cards in such a manner as to isolate the munching dragonbox on one of the two sides of the play space. In math terms, this is learning how to isolate "x" but kids aren't told that, they are just busy learning the rules of these puzzles.

Has Good Tutorials

Through a series of structured puzzles with great tutorials, kids learn the rules of this game, which correlate to learning the rules of algebra. But what is interesting (and brilliant) about this app, is that kids don't even know that they are doing math until they are hooked on doing the puzzles. Then they start to see numbers and symbols.

App Analysis

This app tutorial pace is so spot-on that kids younger than age 7 can play, but since the tutorials must be read, they'll need an older sibling or a parent to work through the puzzles with them. If your kids like this app, when they are older, introduce them to DragonBox Algebra 12+

Best For

The magic of DragonBox Algebra 5+ is that kids think they are playing puzzles rather than doing math. It makes learning algebra fun and accessible for all.
