Harry Potter fans will be in Hogwarts heaven with the release of five Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets software titles. Different programs are available for the PC, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and PlayStation. PlayStation 2, Gamecube, and X-Box all share a single title. While all five games are fun to play, the PC title is truly a masterpiece.
In the PC game, players assume the identity of Harry Potter as he begins his second year at Hogwarts School. The grandeur of this wizarding world quickly becomes apparent as players begin their adventure by tangling with the graphically-sophisticated Whomping Willow, a gigantic writhing tree. This magical world is bigger, more complex and detailed than the world presented in the movie version of the book.
As Harry, players relive J.K. Rowling’s second Harry Potter book. In between sleuthing for the alleged Chamber of Secrets, Harry attends class to learn new spells and potions, practices those spells in special Challenge courses, participates in the Professor Lockhart’s Dueling Club, earns House points, and plays Quidditch. He even faces off with Aragog, the terrifying giant spider.
With a castle full of moving staircases, hidden corridors, and magical creatures that can zap your strength, young wizard wannabes must be quick with their wands. Casting the right spells and using fast thinking can win house points for Gryffindor.
This adventure is so complex and graphically rich that it is beyond captivating. The addition of Wizard dueling and Quidditch league games, which can be played separate from the adventure, scored big points with would-be-wizards.
