The Bottom Line
A fun preschool program that builds confidence in using the computer but which lacks educational depth.
Blue, the adorable blue, felt dog who stars on the Nick Jr. television show called ?Blue's Clues,? and her new human friend Joe, embark on a neighborhood adventure to collect items from five places.
Preschoolers join in the fun by directing Blue and playing games at each of the neighborhood locations. At the Music Store, Blue makes music by copying Purple Kangaroo?s sequence of instruments. The Library is a place to learn about the alphabet by matching books to shelves with letters on them. At the Bakery, Blue and her friend, Periwinkle, play a game of ?I Spy? involving geometric-shaped pastries. The Present Store provides an opportunity to learn how to count, while the Grocery Store is the forum for exploring colors, sizes, and relational concepts.
Each of these activities has three levels of difficulty. Help kicks in when preschoolers miss three answers in a row. The interface is intuitive, and the instructions are simple and clear.
Although program is charming and preschoolers will enjoy it, parents will notice missed opportunities for learning. For example, at the grocery store, there are many items on the shelf that preschoolers won?t recognize. Instead of teaching them the fruit or vegetable by letting the child run the cursor over the unknown item, the program is silent.
THE BOTTOM LINE: A fun preschool program that builds confidence in using the computer but which lacks educational depth.
