Reader Rabbit, the 18-year pro at teaching reading on the computer, is back with a new title; and it’s a powerhouse. It does it all—teaches phonics lessons, guides skill-building through structured phonics activities, provides written texts that carefully incorporate the words previously learned, and then offers reading comprehension and writing activities. And, it weaves all this learning into a fun adventure story.
Reader Rabbit and his friend, Sam the Lion, are questing for The Land Where Lions Roam Free. In the process, they visit four different lands, dodge pesky pirates, and ultimately meet Sam’s long-lost grandfather.
To complete this content-rich adventure, kids work through 21 learning activities, read 17 texts (including short stories, poems, journals, cartoons, and newspaper articles—all of which are printable), and explore 17 reading extension activities.
This software teaches letter-patterns, letter-sound relationships, syllables, sight words, spelling, and reading. If you have a microphone, the software encourages children to hear their reading with the use of record-and-playback features. Kids can print flashcards of words learned.
In addition to the compelling story mode, kids can practice the activities directly. The progress report generated for each player will help parents guide that practice. Go adventuring with Reader Rabbit—your child will become a better reader because of it!
