Because Spelling Games is only available for Windows users, here is an option for Mac owners. Spellmaker can drill weekly spelling words, but it isn’t as much fun or as effective as Spelling Games.
This bare-bones software can drill your child on his or her weekly words in two activities. Kids can practice spelling words by typing them when prompted, or learn how to spell them by unscrambling the letters. The program also offers spelling activities that can be printed, including word searches, flash cards, word scrambles, and practice tests.
Since these spelling words aren’t spoken, practicing a test requires the help of a parent or teacher. A cumbersome log-in involving a series of passwords and “ID’s” makes this program complicated to use.
