Freddi Fish, the adorable yellow finned sleuth, and her best fish friend, Luther, are on their way for a fun day at the new Coral Cove Park when they swim upon an angry mob of fish. Due to mysterious “creature sightings” the Mayor of Coral Cove has closed the park.
Freddi and Luther offer to get to the bottom of this creature mystery. As with all the Freddi mysteries, there is more to this mystery than one thinks at first glance. In this case, the mysterious creature is a sea monster—the last of its kind—whose habitat is threatened by the new Park.
This adventure occurs in a beautifully drawn cartoon world. Children direct Freddi’s movements through approximately 35 scenes. While exploring, Freddi, Luther, and the player meet numerous characters, and each has a story to tell. The characters may need help with something, and some even offer clues to the mystery of the sea creature.
To solve this mystery, players need to use items they’ve found or have been given by characters in one scene to solve puzzles in other scenes. Solving problems always requires multiple steps with a lot of navigation and logic. For example, Freddi and Luther need to investigate inside the closed Park. At the entrance, the security guard explains that she cannot allow them to enter unless they have a permission slip signed by the Mayor. Getting this permission slip signed requires five more steps.
This software rates five stars for many reasons. The adventure is complicated but doable. The characters are fascinating and funny. Freddi and Luther are great role models (for example, Freddi tells Luther: “We can accomplish anything we set our minds to.”). There is more than one game path, so kids can play the game again and it is different. And, most importantly, children learn logical thinking by just having fun. Don’t miss this one!
